The gasket maker worked on the water pump bolt. Another question; if all wiring is correct on my alternator, why would the amp gauge be pegged to its max reading; it does get pretty warm during a short start up.
AMP guages are fires waiting to happen. Switch it to a volt meter and don't send all your alternator's output through the amp gauge.
If it pegs like that you have it wired wrong. The ammeter is connected from the alternator to the main accessory supply line - it should never see your starter amps.
