Hello fellow Maverick and Comet members. Our local car club has sponsered a car show for the last 10 years and we are looking for new and unique ideas for this years event. I know there are many members that have been to more shows than they can count so I would like to tap your brains for unusual ideas that you have came across in shows you have attended. Raffle prizes, games, entertainment, etc.

While we are at it what is the best items you have got in goodie bags, we pride ourselves in having the best goodie bags around but are always looking for new ideas.

Any input will be greatly appreciated, all proceeds from the show we sponsor go to Special Olympics

    Thanks, Mike

Some that I have been to have 50/50 drawings, valve toss (set up a couple of coffee cans and try to get valves in by tossing them). Another thing would be to have a practice tree race. You could set up a bracket, or race til you get beat.:)

Some I used to see years ago is a creeper race. Set it up with 2 identical creepers and the participants get in al all out drag race one pair at a time till you eliminate them all. Of course they have to lie on their back and see the best way they can. Hay bales were used at the end of the course in case someone didn't stop but if you have enough room you won't need anything. Also a spark plug changing contest. It's best with two heads but can be done with one (preferrably cleaned). You'll need tool to change them and a stop watch to time them if you only use one head. If you use two you can eliminate just like the creeper race. For either event you'll need to have an award for the winner. Both of these get big crowds. For kids you can have a hoola hoop contest...or ice cream eating contest. Just use your imagination.
Another is the "low speed" parking lot obstacle course with a blind folded driver and the passenger telling them what to do. (Need plenty of room for this one) :)

Around here the Swan's truck drivers will come in and sell ice cream. A $1.00 per item & give your club 20%. It works good with no investment for the club. Dyno test went over well, ladies prizes also helped. Good Luck!

Well, the last show I went to had a couple of bands that played songs from the 60's and 70's. It was nice to listen to while you walked around and looked at the cars.

Also, they have young ladies walking around with buckets collecting money for charity. I make it a point to go to shows that support a good charity.

Do you have a local Technical School with an Auto class? Talk to them about sending out some students to actually build an engine during the show. Or maybe rebuild a tranny or rearend. Young people love that stuff.

Make sure the local custom and hot rod shops know about the show and invite them. I learned of a shop just 15mins away from me once that built a Falcon like mine. I never would have known had I not meet the owner at a show.
