HOUSTON...multiple questions...recent join date...questions about cigarette lighters and high-beam switches...Looks like someone just recently acquired a MAVERICK...the epitome of 70's vintage steel :drink: (sorry, I have had a couple)

Look inside the ashtray. Mine is 74 and when you open the ashtray (center of dashboard) there is a round hole (about as big as that button on the floor by the brake) that should have a push-in/pull-out cigarette lighter in there.

If the hole is there but not the lighter, you should be able to 1) buy a replacement lighter from AutoZone or O'Reilly, etc. or 2) stop smoking, as you might burn holes in the seats anyway :D

my 70 has an opening in the back of the ashtray that is plugged. it probably was an option. my 71 had one, and so does my 72.:)

Step away from the cold ones Scott. :biglaugh: I installed one in my 77 (no lighter but it had ashtrays :coco: ) last year so I could charge my cell-phone on the way to the Roundup. (And power my mp3 transmitter) Of course, found out my charger was bad and wouldn't charge it anyway... Works now! :D

Even if it is not there, the wire should be hiding away under the dash. I thought I had used mine for something else, but when I was installing the 'power port' I found it hiding and it plugged right in to the replacement 'power port'. No I don't smoke.

You don't smoke, but I AM pouring another drink :drink:

It really is interesting how these cars stayed pretty much the same for 8 years, but had all kinds of little "insignificant" changes that could throw you for a loop (like that damned yellow box under the dash on only the 74's, MAN...I hated that thing until I figured out how to bypass it, yank it, and toss it  )

Duster...don't like your name (as it is MOPAR), but glad to have you on here and asking all the right questions.

"Duster" is cool, I guess, since I picked "scooper" because it is my anonymous "alter ego" email address name for ordering CRAP from catalogs...so all the junk mail goes to my "scooper" address (get it? crap...scooper...as in POOPER SCOOPER?). Also, I own a Mopar (Hemi Dodge Ram, kicka$$ truck, for a truck  )

When I signed up for this forum, I thought it would be one-time-only, but got hooked, and now my name is "Scooper" or "Scoop".

Good to have you on here. We need some "young blood" as Jamie is getting kinda old nowadays :D

duster70; I think it is great that you do ask a lot of questions. That is about the best way to learn....ask people who have experience and passion about these cars. Won't be long, you'll be giving advice to newbies, and have your car in good shape. Besides, we like dispensing our knowledge whenever we can. Take care,

    Earl

Ask away ... we like questions! :Welcome:

also, learn to use the "search" function on the board. the amount of great info in there could fill an encyclopedia.

here is a pic from a 70 owners manual - notice the Falcon influence on the lighter knob.

we have a lot in common...you are "duster", I am "scooper". Both items to get crap off the floor... (y) Plus, we both live in the Houston area. AND, we both drive Mavericks...what is the probability of all of THAT happening
