    Ok....
Going for the gold. I was talking to my buddy who is a ford fanatic but whos dream car is a M3 V8. We were debating what would win in a road race, not drag between a 2010 Shelby Mustang or the M3 V8, and we both concluded that it would most likely come out even and driver would be the difference between who won. The point of the story is the Shelby will out perform with raw power and torque but because of the solid axle rearend it wouldnt be able to keep up in the coners.
Well it came up that the 99-04 Mustang had a independant rear sooooo... that got me thinking of grafting the rear end onto the maverick... I will be heading to my familys autowreckers after the holidays and ripping out the whole rear assembly and taking it home to redesign and fabricate to the maverick......
    Lets see how it go's
Honest opinion if do-able would you?

Anything is doable....If it were me i would cut the whole floor out of the Shelby with all the mounting points and see if i could graft the whole thing to the Maverick...Not for the faint of heart

only the 03-04 Cobras had the IRS. The standard GT and v6 models had a solid axle. SOme hardcore Cobra racers take out the IRS in favor of a solid axle. Keep an eye out on the Mustang boards for a setup for sale, not real cheap though.

Streamliner, Good point..... Ill cut the whole rear end from the cobra and see what needs to be done. Never have been faint of heart.
Ryan..... Dont understand why racers remove the irs in favor of the solid axle save for drag racing. I road race I want the best handling I can get and compared to the solid axel i'll be able to corner like a mad man.

ya I was referring to Drag racers. Good luck finding a 03-04 Cobra in a slavage yard. If I remember right the whole Cobra IRS cage drops out as a unit. You would just need to fab up some mounts. From what Ive read it is pretty easy to put the IRS setup in a standard GT Mustang.

Being at a Chrysler dealer here at work I eyeball the LX chassis rear set up a lot. Its a bolt in rear frame for the most part. Only crossed my mind. Likely way to wide for a MAv. Its a real nice Mercedes set up though and would be a beauty to drive in a Mav.
All the rear wheel Chrysler 300,charger,challenger line use this IRS.

What about a 90's T-Bird/Cougar rear ? Might be a little wide, but easier to find and you could possibly narrow it.

That was my first thought, wonder if the mustang A-arms would work on one of those units, but either way the widths would be a couple inches different then the original axle.

I read an article a few years ago in a mustang mag. about an early (65-66) mustang factory IRS prototype that was cut due to cost. This setup was being reproduced, but the article also had other IRS swaps and sources for company's that sold parts/ kits. One of wich was the cobra setup. Don't know if I still have the mag, but I'll try to find it.

HOT ROD December 2007 (HOTROD with Ford tech, I know, shocking). Cobra IRS kit mentioned was from DVS Restorations: www.dvsrestorations.com

You need to check out member "Thack" Thomas Hackman's IRS setup. I'm thinking he used a Jag setup.

I saw on West Coast Customs a New GTO chassis welded to an old GTO body. I think that would be pretty cool to just take the Mav body on the Cobra Chassis.
