where is the stock coil mounting location for a 72 302? someone put the one on my car on the shock tower, and I don't think I want to leave it there. I can't find any place to mount it on the engine, but I've been told that's where it goes.

    a sparking situation!!!!!

normally on a 302 v8 most of them if they were the cylinder coils went in a bracket mounted on the intake. theres normally a hole for the bolt on the intake on the right side, or the left if you are facing the engine. they may have put it on the fender to make way for a deep dish air breather, although they could've bought a flat bottomed chrome air breather and still let it be 14". and still left the coil as that is what i did. they may have had other reasons but that is a common one i have seen at different places.
anyway that is how i have mine and it's a 4bbl edelbrock aluminum intake. good luck. ~Dan~

It is bolted to the intake manifold while facing the engine from the front of the car left of the carb, but in front of it.
