I have a 70 maverick and when I bought it it had a 200 straight six. That engine ended up dying on me so I replaced it with a 250. The extra power from that killed my c4 transmission so I replaced it with a rebuilt c4. Before replacing the 200 I regularly drove my car upwards of 85 mph and it ran fine. After I replaced the engine once I would get to around 70 mph my car would start making a vroom vroom noise, and not in the good way. It's been about 9 months since I changed the engine and my cars driving has become increasingly worse. It shimmies, the steering wheel shakes very bad at certain times, 60 mph and above it shakes a lot worse, and it makes lots of noise all the time not from the engine but from the car shaking. I was told the entire front end needed to be rebuilt and it would cost $1000. I was wondering what parts in particular would fix my problems and if I need to rebuilt the front end how do I do it, what parts do I need to buy, and where can I get them? Thanks for any help.
Id buy a front end kit from Autokrafters, Laurel Mountain PST just do a thread search. Id put the parts in myself then take it to a shop and have it aligned. You should be able to get a complete kit for under 400.00.
it depends on what parts you need as to weather you can do it yourself or not! if you have to remove the coil springs to replace the upper controll arm bushings you will need an internal spring compressor. If you are not sure how to check it out i would take it to a reputable shop and have them check it out and let you know what you need. just advise them ahead of time that you want to fix it yourself and you will pay them to check it out.
