With all the maverick projects i'v been reading about and engine swaps specifically, makes me wonder, Anyone ever considered a late model hemi? I mean i have a 2004 ram with a 5.7 and i tell ya, for 345hp smooth idle it seems like a great choice. The crate motors have a different intake and make 370 with headers. My 347 makes around that number and doesnt even begin to have the kind of manners this thing has. Maybe 'Big daddy' Don Garlitts was on to something.

I have used the word Hemi dozens of times here. I would love to see one in a Comet. Even in a Maverick if that's all you have.:tiphat:

I was thinking the engine bay would need to be heavily modified to accommodate all that awesome. The wiring and computer issues would be the major issue.

I think it would for sure need a mustangII frontend under it but they even have carb kits for them now.

If there was a way to do away with all the BS accessories and excess hoses, plugs, sensors, wires, pumps and lines and reduce it to the basic engine with no computer it would be neat. It wouldn't be the same engine though.

There is a kit you can buy that basically tells the computer all is well, but you can disconnect all the crap, put on a carb, and drive the crap out of it. The kit basically "dead-ends" all the electrical connections from the engine so you can take all that junk off.

I am keeping that in mind in case my truck starts to give me a bunch of errors.

Not sure how it would fare on the smog test...

Also, there is a cam/header kit that can really open up even the 5.7 Hemi.

but I look under my truck's hood, and that is one massive engine...I can't see it fitting in a Mav or comet, but would like to see it done.

I may be wrong but i think its smaller than a 460 maybe even smaller than a FE. All the crap on it makes it looks bigger than it really is. The cam and header kits are awesome! The heads flow better than mine do from teh factory. Thats why i think its a good deal.

If I were going a route like that with a Maverick I`d install double overhead cammed Supercharged `03 Cobra engine.

I found a complete `03 Cobra driveline in a wrecked car with 68k miles for $7,500.oo and tried to talk Frank into getting it for his car since he already had done the R+C front end kit. Our cars would run low 12`s high 11`s with a stock drive line and a pulley swap to the blower ...still be completely stock (reliable )and get over 20 mpg.

Not to mention blowing people away at car shows.

Not saying that isnt a good choice but after workin on enough of those engines with stuck valves and knowing what i know about hemis in my eyes theres no comparison. The heads on a stock 5.7 hemi flow nearly 270 out of the box. Plus a hemi has more cubes and 1 less cam to worry with. Im just not a mod motor fan. But i do agree the 32v motors run good and would look killer in a mav.

I guess for all the Dodge fans sake lets hope Fiat doesnt put their fingers in too much and leave well enough alone with those motors....
