Anyone ever changed theirs? Gonna be tackling this task in a couple of weeks and just want to know of any hidden "secrets." I've read a few articles on it where some guys say it's a snap, others beg to differ. Just wanted to get advice from the real pros here. Thanks
We just changed one on my friends 67 Firebird Saturday Morning ... we had a lift and it took less than 30 minutes ...
If you have the stock rear end with the crush sleeve that provides pinion preload your in for some grunting to properly torque the pinion nut.
If all you are replacing is the seal then don't replace the crush sleave. Torque it down to get the bearing preload - 10 inch pounds to turn the pinion alone. Be sure to grease that seal before you install it!
