72 maverick- brake fluid is gross and some air got sucked into the lines. So my concerns are that I have only ever done disc brakes. Ive done drums before but with no experience or help on them not sure they were set up correctly? they worked fine but just want to add to my skills. What should I look for? Should I replace springs and such? I remember getting the shoes in was PITA and a step by step guide of sort on repalcing and setting up would be nice.
I would buy new springs, wheel cylinders, shoes, and self adjuster kits. Do one side at a time so you have something to compare to for reassembly. Take note of the location of the short and long shoe. You will need brake spring pliers and a hold down tool (pliers will work for this in a pinch) and good flare nut wrench to remove the line from the wheel cylinder. Soak the fitting with PB Blaster before you start.
