Ok guys...I've gone and done it again. Changed gears midway through the build. I've learned this lesson so many times before and still I do it! Well, I just bought the new Boss block for my motor. The motor is currently all assembled with the Mexican block and sitting in the engine compartment just awaiting the turbo install and I go and buy this! STUPID! Ok, here's my rational...I've had many people tell me that I'm going to split the block around the 500-800 hp mark (the theories on this vary). The straw that broke the camel's back was that I had a guy that runs Fords in the 8's in the PSCA tell me that it's not 'if' I will crack the block...but 'when'. Not being one to like sliding all over the track and wasting a perfectly good engine I bought the new Boss block. Now I'm back to having it machined and I've got to reassemble the engine (not that I don't enjoy that part), and swap the parts that are not compatable. Well, on the bright side...I should not be able to split the block now! And I have the advantage of being able to call it a 302 Boss (all right, no Cleveland heads!). Someone tell me that I didn't just waste my kids college fund! ;)

I thought about maxing it out...but I've already got the 4.030 forged pistons with the dish for the turbos. I don't want to have to re-invest in those again. Besides, now I have room to grow if I melt a piston or something. With turbos and nitrous this will be a hand full anyway. Traction will be my biggest challenge.

Make the kids work their way through college, they'll appreciate the education more if they have to pay for it. Not to say you can't help out if they need it but it is your money.
I think the new block is a wise investment. Wish I could afford one.

I knew that you guys would support me! It's funny how we work so hard and spend so much money just to get a lower et. Which only allows us to have a shorter amount of time actually racing! I suppose that it's just not proportional to the rush we get by going faster though.

Well MNTony, that's a topic that would open up a can of worms.

I heard my wife say just last night, and I quote her " The Lord doesn't answer all prayers, or a asteroid would have fell on your Maverick."

    I really feel the love.:(

MNTony, best block choice you could've made, WTG

Tony I think you are doing the right thing with the boss block. I was only making around 500hp with a stock block running 10.90. The block cracked all 3 main webs in 57 passes. I got a Dart Block now and it should be back together in a month.
