I am going to purchase a sway bar kit from pst. They list a 7/8 front and 3/4 rear for the Maverick but up to a 1 1/8 front and 7/8 rear for Mustangs. My question: don't some early Mustang sway bars share the same physical dimensions as the Maverick? If so, why not list the 1 1/8 & 7/8 for the Maverick too? What sizes are most of you guys using on your Mavericks? I would justhope a 7/8 & 3/4 setup would be enough if I cannot use the Mustang stuff. Next, what front drop coils can I use on my 70 Maverick? I was considering a set of 620 Mustang drop coils(1" drop) but I am not sure if the ride height will be proper. Any recommendations? Mustangs plus now offers a variable rate front coil for Mustangs that I believe are rated at 480 lbs. These would also be something worth considering, but I am reluctant to buy them because I am not sure if the height will be correct(emails to Mustangs Plus have not been returned regarding this issue). Is this a route I should consider? They also offer a camber cam eliminator. It seems to me that it removes the ability to adjust the camber. What does anyone else think about this(if you've seen it)? Two more questions regarding PST products: They provide poly bushings for the strut rods...isn't this a bad idea? I have read about breakage if the bushings are too stiff. Anyone have problems with this? Last one, I promise. PST offers rear leaf springs but they don't offer any specs. So, anyone here used them on their car? Just a bit about my goal: I want something that can handle extremely well. Comparable or better than even todays cars. Thanks for any help.
nope mustangs are longer. it will work though i have a 67-68 mustang one on the front... you'll have to find the right endlinks to fit though. i use a one inch on the front and a 7/8 on the rear... but the rear is made for a maverick not a mustang. you need 67-68 springs from a mustang. 620 will work i have 600s. as far a rigde height i will tell you this. it will be probably be higher then stock. also you didn't say if you had a 6cyl or v8. if you have a 6cyl expect it to be even higher then that! i would suggest you go with the GRAB-A-TRACK Coil springs the come pre-setteled unlike most others were you end up cutting it and then it think its not low enough and then cut it again.. but then after a few miles on them its way to low. if i were to do it all over again i'd buy the pre-setteled ones.. they are about 30 buck more a spring but to me well worth the hassle of pulling them in and out. i would also still think they would need to be cut anyways.. i like my cars low! no seems too low of a rate to me.. didn't someone here say stock was 550 lbs? i seen them i like it but never put them on the car.. good idea though.. since mavericks are always going out of aliement! i run them and had them on the car since the early 90's seem fine to me.. i have heard the same story as well.. when they brake they brake then ill just go to a heavier strut rod. they for a mustang or maverick? i don't see why you couldn't.. but stock width tires and rims aint gonna cut it no matter what suspention you put on the car! i don't know about that.. well just my opinion.. i mean i do see what your getting at.. mavericks aren't very good cars to begin with... but i think my blue car handles quite well and can keep up with a good deal of modern cars on the road today.. and belive me i've driven some crazy handling cars b4 not to meantion i do drive an all wheel drive subaru every day (yeah and thats got suspention parts on it too ). so i think if a maverick is done right it can handle quite well ig: 245 on the front and 275 on the rear... now if your on stock wheels and tires... again... the car aint gonna handle worth jack. just my 2 cents
Hey man, thanks for the info. Regarding your rear sway bar, where did you buy it? As for the coil springs: Stock springs were in the 250-300 range. Pro-mtorsports Engineering also has an Eibach made vairable spring for BB and SB Mustangs from 65-73. The 65-66 comp spring has a spring rate from 550-680. I believe the 67-70 SB springs go from 390-520. I would likely use the 67-70 spring if I would go that route. Just not sure if I will do that. As for PST rear leafs: Yep, they are listed for Maverick! They just don't say if tey are stock or heavy duty. Oh by the way, I have a V8.
a place called TMC but they no longer make them... any mustang one should work. Eibach don't make them for SB mustangs anymore. i also asked someone about the big block ones here before... cuz i had the same questions about the spring rates... now wheres that post.... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=9008&highlight=coil+springs there.... unless you want the car to be raised up in the back i woundn't get heavy duty ones.. thats just my opinton... i don't think they are.. just call them tomorrow and ask them. all this talk about springs i think i'm gonna by some new ones... and then check this out.. i'll list down what spring and how much i cut to get it to how low my car is. damn that should end all questions of all questions on how much someone should cut
There were 2 front swaybar size options for later model Mavericks ('75 & up). The rear is aftermarket and should work quite well. It really bothers me how the aftermarket acts like they don't want a Maverick to handle as well as a Mustang, by not offering swaybars for the Maverick that are as large as those for the Mustang. A Maverick can be made to handle as well as any car with a solid rear axel. It's just a matter of how much money one is willing to spend. Car with independent rear suspensions handle better, of course...
Here are the links for Pro-motorsports engineering. They say their variable rate springs are made by Eibach. It is likely things have changed since the article was written, but this is where I got my info. http://www.pro-motorsports.com/art-springs.asp https://www.pro-motorsports.com/store/front-coil-springs.asp Here is the Mustangs Plus variable rate spring: http://www.mustangsplus.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=MPFMP&Category_Code=coils
