Hello everyone... this is my first post and what not, so let me explain how I got the car, and whats going on.

A few months ago I met a friend of mine who had a Maverick and turned it into a drag car. At the time I was obsessed with Hondas even though I knew the absolute minimum about them. Well then taxes cae back and I was looking for a new car for myself and up on Craigslist I found my 74 4-dr... it has a few problems but nothing major. I had the brakes redone after I bought her b/c they were original to the car. The carburator badly needs to be rebuilt and I've looked everywhere that I can think of for a manual on how to do it and I can't find one. She also needs a new distributer cap as she's burnt out the points once again.

I love her, for a straight six she has a little kick to her. The body needs a little work but nothing major. The lights in the intrument panel keep blowing up fuses and I can't find the short...

suggestions, advice, or ANYTHING would be appreciated...:burnout:

:Welcome: Hi Guy...welcome to the board! You came to the right place...you can use the search(on top) and when you put in a key word or two it will link you with a vast storehouse of knowledge. Gor your carb..if you buy a rebuild kit it will come with a assembly manuel...but I would concider buying a reman unit(they are cheap) depending on what is wrong with yours. As for the points...how about either getting a '75 or newer dist and box(cheap & easy to wire..do a search) or perhaps a pertronix system(easy install)..either one of these would be night and day above what you have now. The 250 is a good motor and has decent enough power to suprise people! My old 250 could easily spin the tires and would bark second gear(with a shift kit)...I even raced a guy with a mid '60 falcon one time. He had a 289 with a 4-barrel and duels... up to about 60mph we were about even..after that he slowly pulled away. I used to have a problem breaking exhaust donuts though...not sure why;) Not sure if any of this helps....

Welcome to the board.:Welcome: I would suggest finding a Chilton's Manual for your Maverick. There is a wealth of information in those manuals that you will find to be very helpful. They are out of print now, but they turn up quite regularly on Ebay.

Welcome to the board! I'm from the Tigard area in a past life, my father and his side of the family are still there. Some how I migrated east.:D I sure do miss the beer of all the micro breweries. And the last couple times we went wine tasting.... Anyways, lots of good people and info here, enjoy. I can't help you myself with your problems as I have a hard enough time troubleshooting mine with it right next to me:biglaugh: Hopefully you will get it.

    Welcome!
If you stick with the points remember to replace the condenser also. A bad condenser can cause the points to burn up also.

thanks guys... before I bought her I was looking around on the net this is the only place I found that had any info what so ever... and if this is the Maverick community I'm sure I'll have no problem getting mine back up to par.

After I was done posting I took her up to the gas station to fill her up and put in a gas treatment that's supposed to clean out the jets in the carb and then I noticed her tires were a little low so I filled the up and took her on the freeway. And anyone who has lived around Portland knows that I-84 headed east is great for cruising at high speeds. She naturally runs a little rough, but after a long run she purred and was just a dream to drive. I am so happy I bought her and can't wait till I have her parts (that need it) rebuilt and maybe upgraded....
