Easiest detachable exhaust methods?

I have never done it with a mig, but used to weld stainless to cast iron back when I worked in machine shop. Never to a thin pipe, though. We will see.

I live near Houston and in a very oil- and industry-heavy area. I have gone to several pipe and industrial supply stores and none of them carry the v-band clamps. Looks like I need to make an order to summit soon.

Not quite. If you use the wrong wire or rod the stainless can crack and it can change the stainless around the weld so that it isn't really corrosion resistant anymore.

yep.. and the welds will sink into the pipe too.

 

To mig weld stainless you need special stainless wire, the number depends on what alloy of stainless you want to weld. And it takes a special gas mix that isn't as inert as you would use for carbon steel.

 

So what wire and what gas would I need for 304 stainless on a steel pipe?

 

308 or 309 wire with tri-mix shielding gas, like 90%He/7.5%Ar/2.5%CO2.
