Hey guys, I just got my 200ci tuned about 3 months ago. Shes ran silky smooth up until last Saturday while I was on my way home she began acting up really badly choking for a few seconds then running just long enough to keep her moving forward. I pulled the plugs and cylinders 2 3 and 6 the plugs were soo gummed up with yellow crust there was no longer a gap. I cleaned them up and placed them back in, cleaned the terminals, replaced the fuel filter, and even ran a few shots of carb cleaner. I ran her again and nothing changed, she runs find for a second or two then chokes up for a few seconds, this occurs for about 3 minutes till she dies :/ any ideas? Ive tried to cover most my bases before I consult the forum.:hmmm:

Swap to a pertronix setup. Maybe $40 or so. And tear out those points. Never look back.

You can pick one up at autozone, oreilly, etc.

Besides never worrying about points again, what else would it do?

Any ideas what cuases the buildup on the spark plugs in 2 3 and 6?

The pertronix will make starts easier, it will idle better, even when cold. You will never have to adjust dwell and points again. Once you get it installed, which is (if I recall correctly...) one screw, a small plastic feeler gauge that looks like it came out of a kids cheese and cracker snack, and splicing in two wires...you will never have to mess with it again.

I just swapped from Pertronix to HEI distributor, and am just about ready to go back!!!

Works well with MSD boxes, too.

I would guess that the buildup is from poor spark not igniting all of your fuel????

Combustion chamber being too cold and not thoroughly burning all of your fuel.

^ I can't agree with all them enough, points are outdated. Electronic ignition is cheap, and Im willing to bet after you switch, with 6 new plugs obviously. Your car will be fine again :) Might even Feel like you got a few horsepower lol

Basically an Ignition Control Module. Controlling when the plugs fire based on the signals from the dizzy/pickup and some preset modifiers. I have no experience with MSD boxes, but from my understanding they can usually be set in a similar fashion as a later computer controlled system... based off RPM, vacuum/boost, everything. But you obviously pay more for the other options.
