Hey guys, I just turned 18 and I decided to buy a classic car to turn into a little street machine. I bought a 1973 maverick and all the body panels are straight, there is just a little rust spot on the front driver side fender, and a small patch of surface rust the size of a quarter on the hood. the car came with a 302 with 2v heads. the car is a robin egg, or baby blue with a black pin stripe down the contour of the car. I am looking for a grabber hood, and for advice as to what i should to the car its self. I need to either raise the back end or lower the front end.
We love pictures! For the grabber hood, place an ad in the Parts Wanted section: http://mmb.maverick.to/forumdisplay.php?f=14 To lower the front end, the most common way is to cut a partial or complete coil out of the coil springs. To raise the rear, you may simply need to replace the old, saggy rear leaf springs.
plans for car 1st) I will get some pictures of the car on here tomorrow 2nd)I want to give the car a more aggressive stance, tune up the 302 engine, ( I am getting a 600 cfm holley non adjustable carb and edelbrock performer intake), I want to change the sway bar(s) out and get all new tie rod ends,(need) rear shocks, I have a set of "lowering" spindals from the person who sold me the car.( he said they are from another maverick but he doesn't k ow the year.) eventually new chrome 5 spoke rally wheels and a new paint-job with new pinstripe or different stripe, not sure weather i would like to keep the vinyl roof or not. I want this car to be pretty enough for a car show but able to run strong and hard down the street and eventually the drag strip.
That's really cool. I've never heard of a "non-adjustable" Holley, nor do I know why anyone would want one. Definitely lower the front rather than raise the back (provided that the rear springs aren't shot).
The defective 600 I sent Holley had non adj floats(had a plug in bowls)... I asked in the letter I sent with it if I could pay difference and get a adj version but never heard anything... The new replacement came with adj floats...
