I live in Southeast Portland, near 122nd ave. I always have Tuesdays off, and Thursday OR Friday off, but sometimes both. I don't work until 4 pm on Saturdays as well.

I'm not wholly against a newer engine, although I love that mine is original and I LOVE how simple it is compared to newer cars, plus all the work I've already done with it. Im aware I may be forced to go with something different though.

To Yellow75 and simple man, Im gonna hold off on any tests or anything until I can just take a peek under the valve cover since I haven't really ever inspected anything in there. I'll get back to all you guys once I can look and get some pictures :thumbs2:

You will still be able to do a compression test with your valve cover removed. :)

Sorry for the delay, guys. Been working a lot the last couple days. I'll have some time tomorrow to pop off the valve cover and get some pictures. I'll have my dad with me tomorrow as well so we may do an oil change and take a look at my oil pan while we're at it.

A bit of good news though, I replaced my old oil cap that didn't have a seal with a brand new one that seals tight, and the creamy moisture/oil gunk has reduced almost tenfold. :dancing:

Ill be back on here tomorrow afternoon/night to post pics and results. Hope you guys are still following this thread! (y)

So my valve seals look almost new... All of them... :16suspect
They were obviously replaced before I bought the car. The only odd thing is that one seal on cylinder 6 (which has consistently had the cleanest spark plug) was stuck up higher than every other seal.. a couple pics will show that. Take a look at the pics and let me know what you guys think :tiphat:

Pretty clean in there, do you have different spark plugs on cylinders 2 and 5 as they look taller.

Those two were fouling the worst so I put non-foulers on them. But I agree, dont see any remnants of old disintegrated seals or nothin in there.

I think its time you did a compression check. Go rent a compression gauge from your local auyo parts store and see what you have.

Do you have any pics of your spark plugs? How is the carb? Adjusted properly? Is the choke opening all the way when warm? Have you tried a hotter plug?

The seals should go up and down with the valve as it opens and closes. If they are all down, that means they are not riding the valve because they are too loose. Which means they probably leak oil.
