Ok, I don’t have a cooling issue, but was thinking has anyone run an extra auxiliary heater core(s) in the front of the car when space is limited? It’s just a small radiator right?

Same reason you turn on the heater if your car gets hot. Adding extra cooling capacity.

It is a VERY SMALL radiator, designed for the airflow that a heater blower can produce and the coolant flow that a heater hose can supply. I think it boils down to efficiency. It is not a viable solution because a larger radiator is much more efficient at dissipating the heat that an engine produces.

But, technically, you could do it.

I think turning on the heater wud (be most uncomfortable)work to well in mid-summer afternoon. If the car is running hot an aux rad might not help. Plus a lot of extra hoses involved wud make it impractical IMO. There are a number of things that may cause overheating besides the radiator..

I was just curious if anyone had tried it. Lots of pluming, but you could put a couple cores almost anywhere. I was thinking in an addition to a large capacity radiator.

If one had a large capacity radiator that's working properly, that is all they shud need in the realm of radiators. I have seen many thousands of cars in my lifetime and have never seen such a setup. That's not to say "it's not possible", but most likely unecessary, w/ a properly working system.

that extra rad. would need to be in a box where no air could get to it...like the heater core is in a heater box. then the air blown across it into the cabin.
my transmission cooler is mounted at the back under my car and the fluid temp drops 30 degrees. it's mounted flat to the trunk pan with about 1 and a half inches of clearance.
you could mount it under the back seat and use it like...radiant heat...just need a way to shut it off in the summer.

Even a standard capacity radiator in a properly operating cooling system and I emphasize system should be all you need even in the most adverse driving conditions. Stacking obstructions to the front of the radiator only compromises it's efficiency. Same with mismatched pulleys, weak hoses that collapse, fan spacing, shrouds, thermostats, caps and Water pump impeller spacing. All have to work as a team to have an optimized cooling system.

I thought he was talking about..."an extra auxiliary heater core"...not for cooling the car...but for extra heat in the car...

Good reply from Dave. I changed the antifreeze in my '74 last summer and I added a bottle of Hy-Per Lube (wetting agent). My car runs 15 to 20 degrees cooler under all conditions than it did before.
