I have been thinking about doing the carb conversion on my Maverick with the 250I6. I have been looking into a Holley but was wondering what model cfm to get along with a mild street cam. Also, should I go ahead and get new valves, springs and lifters? The motor has 45,000 miles on it......
For a street driven car the 350cfm Holley would be a good choice but for all out performance you would want the 500cfm Holley. If you are planning to change cams your best bet would be to get the entire kit which typically would include new lifters and matching valve springs. Probably no need to replace the valves but just do a good performance valve job while the head is off. www.classicinlines.com has a good selection of camshafts for your engine. Good luck!
I am sure it will be said....but I will say it. The money you spend on the 6 cyl would be better spent on a V-8...if "performance" is what you are after.
Yea, I know but there's just something about having the 6 cylinder. It's just kinda old school to have the modified inline......
Oh.....I agree....but expect to spend twice as much to go half as fast and have everybody come up and tell you "You should have got a V-8".
I do know a guy who raced a Chevy 250 that he bult up not too long ago and that thing was a torque monster! Pretty much what I'm looking for is low end power.....
im going to do this myself soon. debating going with a weber before i pull the head, running a 6-1 header and maybe a small blow through setup. Luckily my car is in nice shape with a legit 42k on the driveline. since we have a v8 mav already i think the 250 will be fun to work with. sixes can be fun. we have a (japanese) one in the garage putting down over 425 at the rear wheels.
