my maverick has rust in the weirdest places, most significant is the passenger side rear shock mount, someone tried and failed to repair it. it looks to be a single body panel spot welded to the floor. it thought about replacing it, but i've been wondering if i'd be better off cutting the whole thing out and just building a new bracket from scratch. any thoughts?

Does the 70 have the same upper shock mount as the 71? If so, I happen to have the mounts I'm willing to sell for $10+ the bus ticket.

Does it have staggered shocks? If not then you could get an aftermarket shock mount/crossmember from somebody like Alston and just eliminate the stock setup. It may be easier than fixing what you've got. You could still do it if you have staggered shocks if you just change one bottom shock mount plate.

Years ago on my first Maverick after using........air shocks......I had a friend weld u-shaped brackets around the frame rails and a rectangular steel tube between them. Then we added upper shock absorber bolts and never used air shocks again. But if you're doing a restoration I would take rthomas offer.

Looks like air shock damage to me.

I did the same thing to a Maverick way back when.

You mean staggered shocks like one in front and one behind the axle? Yes that's what it has. What does this after market crossmember consist of?

This is what I was thinking of doing. it didn't have air shocks when I got it but the upper shock had been moved to holes cut in the frame rail and the extreme angle caused one to shear off.
