A V6 one will be fine for a mild 302 motor. In fact some of the V6 ones are rated for more torque than some of the V8 ones. Do you have the TAG ID number? We can tell you what it is from.

The V6 trans have a longer input(as do '94 & '95 5.0), so require a deeper bell housing or swap the input shaft...

Also I believe they are rated same as '86-'89½ 5.0 which was 265ft lb, 5.0 were up graded to 300ft lb rating late in '89... You can bust the 265ft Lb version with a stockish 5.0, got the T-shirt for that one...

    BTW

Here is the chart to ID the Ford version T-5... The '94 & '95 input shaft are 2/3" longer than '93 earlier 5.0, there were no V6 versions prior to '94...

I have a 69.5 with a t5 swap fits extremely tight to tunnel but does fit. Put one in a 61 Falcon lots of tunnel mods

UGH, forgot about the 4 cyl t5's...I usually gut them and build z specs out of them.

That chart is a little misleading...

the trans listed motorsport is the t5z..the t5z never came in any production vehicle, so it cannot be included in this discussion, as it was always a catalog only transmission.

the cobra t5 shared a pocket bearing with the t5z...it does add 10 hp to the rating..

other than that, the v8 and v6 transmissions are all rated the same after 90. (that chart is wrong).....they didn't use two different gearsets after 90 (with the 4 banger t5 being the obvious exception) (I've been building t5's for over a decade, and it's also common knowledge)

    t5

I been following this post on the T5 conversion. I looked at how rthomas771 did his T5 conversion on His home page I'm doing the same conversion I have two questions for rthomas771 with the 300 rear end gear You said in 5th gear it was fine 2000 RPM at 75 MPH but you are running a 15in tire. would it be worst for me with the 300 rear gear and I have 14 in tire? Or will it still work ok? And also You said You did not have to shorten the drive shaft? Thanks any answer to my questions will be helpful. gotstang

The shorter the tire...the lower (higher number) the finial gear ratio. In other words...your car will feel like it has more than a 3.00:1 with a shorter tire than it would if it had a taller tire. You have to be looking at the tire height...not the size of the hole in the center of the tire. Some 15" tires are not as tall as some 14" tires. I have 235 60x15's which are 26.10" tall...a 225 70x14 tire is a smaller tire but it is 26.40" tall. I didn't have to do anything to the driveshaft.
