mine sat for 2 years before I got it and a few of my seals were bad. I have a lot of hoses too... I had to replace fuel hose that goes to carb and top rad. hose cause they were cracked. Ya don't want gas leaking anywhere :p Oil and gas are probably old and crappy too. Wouldn't hurt to drain gas tank and change oil. I'm not sure about the tranny i've been told to change it by some others told not to so i haven't done it. I'm sure your'll get a lot more from other people but thats just some basic stuff to get ya started and pretty cheap too.

Matt; the engine in my car sat for 10yrs in a friends back yard, and when I got my Mav, he said he would sell it to me ('74 Comet). It is a 302, and I did the following to get it going: 1) change all hoses and belts. 2) change points and coil, or convert to electronic. 3) Remove the plugs, put oil in the cylinders, and turn the crank with a breaker bar or wrench. If it turns well, keep turning it a few times, and let the oil seep into the rings, and CHANGE THE OIL! 4) Install new plugs, rebuild or replace the carb. 5) Check out the wiring, and install new plug wires. 6) Drain gas from the tank, check for rust and crud in the tank. Clean the tank and put in good gas, check all the fuel lines and install a new fuel filter. 7) Install a good battery, turn it over and see how good it runs. It will smoke a bit from the oil in the cylinders, so don't be impatient. Mine smoked for a week, and one day it quit, and has been perfect since. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Im going through the same thing with my 55 Olds, its been sitting for 13 years.

One other thing you might want to check is the front-end, make sure the rubber is in tact and is not cracked, and theat it is lubed well. Also check the braking system, master cyl, wheel cyl, brake shoes and hoses.
