I had recently bought this maverick and was honestly too damn excited to see that the speedo/gas gauge/turn signals didn't work when I was test driving it. I was jsut so happy to finally be behind the wheel of one again.

TBH I haven't worked on it since I got it. I'm still at the "just sit in my garage and stare at it" stage.

So I pull the cluster out and see the handy work of someone who clearly just didn't care. The cluster was full of dirt from sitting outside, no sockets, harness not plugged in, and the speedo cable hanging. well I got all the sockets from an extra set of gauges, and hooked up the speedo cable. still no worky on the speedo:hmmm: but a couple lights came on.and no gas gauge still.

so i'm thinking about new gauges and fabbing up a new bracket type deal in place of the old gauges. I just don't know where to go for the gauges. Like turn signals, gas guage and of course speedo and maybe a tach.

has anyone currently on here ever done a custom job for gauge setups? if so can you post a pic?

As far as the wiring, have you thought about getting a new harness?

as in the entire car harness? I have thought about it, but it seems like a very big project. Honestly. I've done motorcycle harnesses, but obviously on a smaller scale. I would assume they're close to the same just longer.

Bryant that setup looks good, I just prefer the original dash. And i'm on my way to check out those dakota digital gauges. Those are nice simple, and probably not too much fab work involved.

If you want to go back to original, I have a 120MPH speedo sitting in my garage. Not sure if it works. Came out of a 71 Comet.

    1971 won't work in a 1976....unless modified.

It's just the speedo, not the whole cluster. I didn't realize they were different.

Well I guess it's time to update the info on my file. I do now have a 1970 maverick. I'm sure it would be fine, but I think I'm just going to grab a set of gauges from glow shift. They're cheaper, good enough to be round about close enough for general driving.

Anyone have any experience with 'em? I can fab something up if need be no problem. Just getting up and holding up other projects is my issue. Too many toys not enough money.

I find that comment hilarious, because when I first got the car I just looked at it and sat on the drivers seat imagining how it would be to drive it for at least 6 months!:rofl::rofl:

Here's a rather bad pic of my dash. Had a lot of holes in the dash when I got it, best way to work them out. Works really well!:)
