Trying to put this old thing back together, and it would appear the body shop made my engine harness disappear. It's a 72 v8 car. I see a square hole on the dr side firewall where I believe the harness "should" come through. Is this right?

I have the entire dash out of the car right now too. I'm looking at the wiring where the dash was, and no where do I see any kind of receptacle that the engine harness would plug into. Anyone know where the harness begins under the dash that goes to the firewall?

Pics of course r best if anyone has any.

Here is what I'm dealing with...nothing on engine side, nothing inside car, and I don't see any plugs at dash area for engine harness

Your engine harness mates up with the square hole on the driver side. The back of the fuse box is what it plugs into. The screw in the middle of the fuse box is what clamps them together.

It is on the back side of the fuse block. It snap into the square hole, and the center bolt you see in the center of the fuse block bolts the two together.

That's some great info!!! I've just come off a complete ground up build on my 66 mustang, and although just a few years separate the maverick from my 66, the maverick seems to be a better engineered car (more advanced)...

My 66 has a harness that plugs into the firewall on the inside, which plugs into the harness on the outside of the firewall...it's a real lousy design...

Thx again for the help...looks like I've gotta hit some junkyards this week.

Do you happen to know the range of harnesses that will fit? Will all plug in and work? I know a section of it is specific to a v8, but will a 70-77 all plug into the fusebox end?

I don't see a V8 and 6 cyl having a different wiring harness. 70-75 should be the same fuse box. 76-77 the fuse box moved to the dash and has a cover to hide the fuses

great, that widens my chance of finding a junkyard harness. I thought I read somewhere, that at the end of the harness, part of it is specific for a v8...maybe some of the connections are in a different place? Not too worried about that, I'll be running a 3g alternator, and much of my wiring I'll be making custom...Just need the firewall harness for a few connections

Try some of the parts houses. About 6 months ago, I got an NOS engine compartment harness from Green Sales for $45.
