Hello all....................I'm finding it very hard to find any info on wiring a 2g alternator into my 77 Maverick which currenyly has the 1g. I'll admit I'm not very smart when it comes to electrical. I'm in the process of installing an 88 5.0 HO motor with the fuel injection into my 1977 Maverick which I am pulling out the 250 cid six cylinder. I understand that I should just go to the 3g alternator which I can find all kinds of info on but the factory 88 2g alternator is fine and I'm on an extremely tight budget..........any help would be appreciated.
I'm about to do the exact same thing...I have a 3g in my 66 mustang, but honestly, all I have is stock accessories in the maverick, and I've got 7 2g alternators lying around... all you need is the original harness that plugs into the 2 ports on the 2g alternator, then wire up as below
Thank you very much Jeremy...................that seems alot easier than what I figured and now I can get rid of the external voltage regulator.....awesome!
The thing to remember the 510 resistor in the diagram is that it's a 15 ohm in the orig harness... Point is I dunno if the low value will damage the 2G regulator(or a 3G for that matter), light if it operates at all will be very dim... I plan on clipping the 15 ohm resistance wire in mine and adding a 470 in series so alt will be operating with the circuit as designed...
Agreed but it's there encase the bulb fails... A 15 ohm in place of of the 500 has the potential of drawing approx one amp of current where as normal load of the bulb is approx a quarter of that... With the 500 ohm resistor only, .025 amp is drawn through the circuit... The 15 ohm was necessary to excite the orig electro-mechanical regulator and no way is necessary for solid state regulators...
