So I wanna replace my worn out stock ignition coil with an MSD blaster 2 coil which I have already purchased. They are both the cylinder type, but the MSD is putting out more obviously. My question is, how do I go about switching them? It seems pretty simple, pull the old on out, and attach the two wires and the spark plug wire to the top, am I right? It's a 75 250 i6
Well I've replaced the rest of the ignition system, so this is the last thing. So I figured I'd finish the job
I don't think you would notice any gain with an aftermarket unit....just more space in you wallet for what used to be in there.
As simple as it looks. Just be sure the wire coming from the distributor gets hooked to the "-" terminal. It will function the other way but it will never be quite right. Also, the coil should be mounted vertically, not horizontally. Don't expect to see a big difference in power. SPark
Okay thank you! I'm not expecting a noticeable gain, but every little bit counts... Plus I just wanted to finish what I started
I had a MSD blaster 2 coil go out on the way to a meet in Fl. I called NAPA and they delivered me a stock coil. I installed it on my 347 and never noticed a drop in performance...$17...gave the delivery Girl a $20, thanked her...on to Fl...
Make sure the Blaster II works with the ignition system you're running. Not all coils are the same and do not work with some ignition systems. If you're running points, the hotter spark will keep your plugs cleaner longer. It will at the same time wear the point contacts faster and thus you'll need to adjust them more frequently. You also need a dwell meter to set points, the gap setting is only a starting point nad by no means the optimal setting. Because of this, I strongly advise you to replace the points with a drop in electronic module. Then you can set the module's gap and forget they're there.
