Hello.................I've read quite a few of the posts on converting big bumpers to the small on Mavericks and im wondering If the 1977 Maverick could possibly be different than the 1974 to 1976. I took all the mounts off of a 1972 and after taking the rear big bumper off of the 1977 and just holding the small bumper up to the rear where it will mount there seems to be a exceptionally large gap and does not seem to fit as flush as it should. has anyone experienced this situation with a 77 or for that matter any big bumper changeover. I don't remember if I pulled the small bumper off of a 4 door or not and if so c is there differences in 2 door and 4 door mounts ect. any info would be great.

Are you sure the rear brackets are 72 and not early 73 ? 73 rear bumpers stuck out further... 70/72 brackets are shorter than 73....

It was either 76, or 77 that the back bumper mounting changed a bit compared to the 74's, but it shouldn't affect anything.

2-door.....4-door......1974...................1975...............1976................1977..............it doesn't matter, the procedure and parts needed are all the same.

Is he refering to the rear lower valance? If not in place it will look like a huge gap under the bumper.

It could be a 73 bumper.........................I didn't know they stuck out further. I guess I will have to search for some other brackets......thanks.

do you have the valance and gravel shield from the 72? if not it will appear as a big gap because parts are missing

I have the valance for the rear and the gravel shield for the front which was a 1971 or 72 car. The rear bumper was off of a different car which was a 73 most likely but not positive....will have to dbl. check the next time Im at the salvage yard.
