I have been working on this one for the last two days and have gotten nowhere. I’m at the end of my rope. I understand it can be done, but I’m just not getting the right combination of parts.

I bought the Performance Automatic’s AOD floor shifter rod:
    http://www.cjponyparts.com/performance-automatic-aod-shift-linkage-kit-1965-1973/p/ASL5/

I’m using the TV bracket out of an 89 Mustang:
    http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/attachments/29860d1312435920-aod-shifter-cable-and-bracket.jpg

Unfortunately, when you have the shifter rotated to the up position to use the floor shifter, the TV cable mount and the shifter want to occupy the same space.

So, I tried the Lokar AOD selector shaft:
    http://www.summitracing.com/nv/parts/lok-ata-1001/overview/
This might have worked but now the cable mount runs into the where the selector attaches to the shaft.

So, off to Pick and Pull in the 90 degree sun to pull a stock selector and a couple of different TV cable mounts. That was a waste of time and money which solved nothing.

I see Lokar has kick down kits but none of them are listed for a EFI.

Now, I’m a couple hundred into this project and I have accomplished nothing. What’s the deal? What am I missing here?

Why not use the Lokar TV cable? It's plenty long enough, for anything you'd want to do with it. If I could get to my car, I could take some pictures and show you how it all fits. I can't get to the car till Saturday.

Not sure if that cable works with EFI. Their site does not list the EFI as fitting. I have an email into them.

Other than the actual TV lever that just bolts on, I don't think there are any difference in the way lever mounts to trans... The factory Stang & T-Bird setup route the shifter cable toward the rear of car, then loop back to trans, lever points downward... There's a bracket that bolts to tail housing that secures cable...

Are you using factory EFI, aftermarket(throttle body) or carb? Going to make a difference as the TV cable engine hookup will be different for each... At least for factory EFI...

The main problem is the Mustang AOD shifter is cable operated. With it they are able to mount the selector in the down position since the cable is so much easier to route through tight spaces. The Maverick floor shifter uses a rod which needs a clear line of site to operate.

    I’m going exploring two possibilities:
    1. Obtain a Mustang shifter and brackets to see if the cable can be modified to be used with the Maverick floor shifter.
    2. Bend/weld/drill the TV and selector so that they will clear each other in the up position.

If you pick up a Stang/Bird shifter be sure it's for AOD or or maybe C5... The A4LD shifters used with the half motors have a seven detent shifter(P R N OD 3 2 1)... Length of the shifter arms are going to dictate whether the ratio, is correct over the full travel...

    BTW

AFAIK none of the pieces interchange between AOD & A4LD shifters, even cable is different... One has adj on shifter arm while other is on trans(at least that the case on T-Bird)...

    Thanks KC.

Just got a call from Lokar. I was suprised that they actually called me. They say that their kickdown cable kit will work.

I'm not a fan of how the cable is routed but I need to get this thing to work. So, this sounds like the path of least resistance.
