I notice this in my Owner's Manual -
"City-Country Horn- (New York only) Your city-country horn is designed to produce two levels of sound. While city driving, you can set the horn for the quieter level of sound. Set it for the louder level of sound however, when driving in the country."

Anyone have this option on their Maverick/Comet? I wonder if this was the plan when the book was going to press and it never got off the ground. :scratchchin:

Are there not two dimples (that would indicate optional holes to be punched) in the driver's side front fender apron for a second horn (directly under the single horn location)?? I thought I noticed this when I was cleaning my engine compartment.

    Paul,
There was a hi/low horn option for the Maverick. I have never seen one but it is in the books. I modified a horn from another car by grafting the mounting tab from another Maverick horn to it. I mounted it in the same position you described since it seemed appropriate. There is a support plate on the other side that needs to be welded to the apron so that you have the correct attachment bolt.

    Jeff,
    Is that a 1974 manual?

I just looked through my 72 Comet manual and it doesn't mention this . It just gives basic instructions. I guess there is a separate switch? ... or maybe, two distinct spots on the steering wheel? Does it say how to choose between the two?

My manual does talk about a center rear seat belt, though... never seen that ... I think it is just wrong, unless maybe it would be a 4 door thing? ...

Would be interesting to see, I've never seen one.

4-doors had a set of middle rear seat belts.

    Jeff-
Yes, it's the '74 manual...3rd printing that was printed back in December of 1973. No mention on how to choose which horn.

Did the 70-71 Mav/Comet come with a HI/LO or dual horns like the wiring diagrams imply?

There was a discussion about this awhile back. I think it was about rare options. No one had actually seen it but it was listed in the parts book as a kit.

I modified the harness like the diagram. I have not tested them yet. I'm wondering how different and how loud it will be. I did it just to see how many options I can get on my car.

I have early 73&74, ordering books, I'll have a look in them and see if it's listed .
