What did I do wrong? The only mods I have done that could have affected it are 4-leaf springs from JC Whitney, and the Rod and Custom kit. The angle was off even before I did the R&C kit. You can look back at me fighting this "exhaust drone" for MANY years, like 7 or 8. Currently, I have 9 degrees of negative pinion angle. How so? I don't hear of anyone else fighting this problem. Engine is down 5 degrees and differential is down 4 degrees, as it sits now. I am pretty sure the rod and custom mounts layed the engine back a couple degrees, but still, that would have been 6 or 7 degrees negative even with the stock engine mounts.
didnt you cut the pads off at one point and reweld them and a new angle? tremic now makes a smart phone drive line angle app. it works really well. it should help make it clear as to what needs adjustment to get it right. are the jc whitney springs stock or lowering springs? are you running stock length shackles? is your car folded in the center about 9 degrees?
I have not cut the pads off yet, waiting for weather to cool down. And that is to correct this angle. I have a smartphone app that does angles in .1 increments, and cannot wait to use it. Now, is the car folded in the middle??? Damned good question! Actually, one I should have answered prior to cutting off my pads and moving them. I do have a lean of about 1/2" on the driver side that I corrected with a drop block. So, there very like COULD be a little added angle by some frame damage. I think I better focus there first... Stock shackles and I don't think there was anything special about the springs except for an extra leaf.
I have 4 degree shims in mine still needs a little more going to go with 6 degrees . Stock springs 59 Ford 9 inch and car never been hit . Before I put shims in vibrated bad now just a bit at high speed . If my diff was not powder coated would cut perches and rotate diff.
the car bent was more of a funny suggestion than serious. i would imagine the doors would not fit if the car was bend. i suspect the bigest problem these cars were not high end cars. ford did not put a lot of engineering into them to make them handle what we do to them.
Doors close fine, and you cannot see any noticeable bend in the car (I have seen some mavs and mustangs with NOTICEABLE bends!!!). OK, not so worried about the frame now. Will work on the angle by cutting and welding. When I went to the MCCI meet in July, I was driving on a 4* and 2-2* shims on each side. SILENT. Until I hit a bump and one of the 2* shims came out and then I started to get nervous with all the slop noise going on back there. Got it on the trailer and haven't driven it since. I don't like 4 pieces of "stuff" between my axle and the springs.
