suspension help

    Guys when it comes to suspension parts I'm lost. Is this a shock or a strut?

    No, remove the two bolts at the bottom and three on top of the shock tower and it will pull out the top through the engine compartment.

    It's pretty easy other than those nuts at the bottom, they can be a pain but if you soak them good with penetrating oil it will help.

    The shock comes out easily as mentioned but if it is the coil spring you need to remove, a spring compressor is absolutely needed :)

    Yeah I have the car jacked up and weight off the spring and the control arm and it looks like its blocking the rear shock bolt because there's no weight on it. Can't get a socket on it. Any suggestions on how to remedy that?

    Or maybe its just a pain to get off, LOL

    Figured out the problem. You either have to remove the bolts before you jack the car up or take out the back one first if its already in the air. Both new front and rear shocks are in. My rear air shocks were shot. Right side was totally collapsed. Rides a lot less bouncy now lol...

    How long has you car had air shocks? A lot of members including myself have had bad experiences with air shocks ripping the top mounts out and driving their way up through the trunk floor :slap:

    Honestly they look like they've been in there forever. But the mounts look good. And I replaced them with standard shocks

    Just too many bad stories about air shocks - still good you changed to the stock shocks - much better to add a leaf or have them re-arched if you ever need some extra height

    If the air shocks leaked all the air out, you can run them for years without ripping out shock mounts ... ask me how I know that .... They work like regular shocks then.

    Unless you are raising the back of your car to clear big tires by using air shocks, the air leaks out, the fenders hit your tires------ask me how I know that :LOL:
