Ive got a 73 Mav 4dr, 302 w/stock pipes and muffler on it. I want to to run new pipe and a glasspack but not sure what company to go thru. I wanna keep it mounted in the original areas but so far the places ive tried to search just bring up dual conversions or universal fittings. Anyone got a suggestion? Also its my daily driver so I need to watch the fuel consumption. Thanx all :hmmm:

The glass pack thrush seems to be the standard. As far as the pipe nobody repops it, an exhaust shop will have to make it. If you have the $$ get headers and a true dual exhaust, you'll have more power and probably get better gas mileage.

4-door Mavericks sound best with the stock exhaust system, and since you don't want duals anyway, that is my suggestion.

I don't know if you're aware but 4 door mavericks came with the same v8 as the 2 doors.

Glasspacks are for tractors, buy a real muffler.

Well, they're also for '40s & '50s customs, but other than that, I completely agree.

Yes, but they also came with 2 extra doors, a longer wheelbase, and a different roof.

How does any of that change the way the engine sounds?

It doesn't. That was just my silly way of saying that it's the wrong kind of car for "that" sound.

And really, I don't think any Maverick/Comet should have glasspacks.

Any muffler shop could cut out your existing muffler, and will have glasspacks in stock (or be able to get them within a day), and can stab one into the stock location.

I personally LOVE the way glasspacks sound on EVERYTHING!

I have installed them on a 4-cyl chevy luv pickup, 280ZX, Suzuki samurai, Dodge van with 440ci and I had them on the maverick for a while both in sidepipes and under the car.

They are not all that much louder, but they give the car a slightly more deeper tone.

Thanx for all the ideas. Guess now I just gotta shop around all the muffler shops and find best $$ on piping. Was hopeing to do it myself but, o well.lol And as far as sound goes I do like a deeper tone but cant stand all the rice-grinders around with a fartcan tacked to the rear:biglaugh:. I may however see what a shop says about muffler/glasspack and rethink what would work better for my preference..

if you can weld you can make your own system. just buy a few mandrel u bends and some straight pipe and start cutting fitting and welding.

I can Mig weld if its gas but I dont have a welder and everyone I know with one has Arc. Otherwise I would probly have it about done.
