Kind of tinkering with the idea of doing a 2.3t swap in the maverick. Had 302s and a 5.0 in the car and the carb side of the deal always drives me crazy.

    I'm teetering between a 351w and a 2.3. What do you think?

I really want to do that swap eventually. It'd be hilarious to pull up next to somebody, have them compliment your ride, and then rev up a four cylinder and blow off :D

I don't honestly think it would be that hard, except for the oil pan.

The Fox chassis are all rear sump but I believe it's possible to use a Pinto/M-II oil pan and pickup though...

Biggest issue I can think of is motor mounts and possibly needing shock tower clearance for turbo...

Someone on here had a turbo coupe engine in their car before changing to a turbo 460. Can't remember their name. Why not put efi on the 5.0? Like you I got tired of carbs and went efi.

A turbo 2.3 with a T5 would make for a pretty fun little car!!

What all is involved with going efi on the 5.0?
    Cost?
    Gains?

    Thanks

Well its in the works. Picking up a running driving 87 turbo coupe on Friday.
Has a holeset turbo walboro pump and a few other goodies already.

I know I'll have to make motor mounts and clearance the oil pan. That doesn't scare me......wiring does Lmao.

I've gotten bored with the sbf stuff and am ready for a change. And hey if it doesn't work out I'll have a 2.3t up for sale for cheap haha

    Auto or 5 speed??

For the '87 & '88 T-Coupe the PCM wiring in intertwined with the ABS and ride control systems, radiator fan(s) controller, fuel pump, etc... Computer test plug is in the ABS/ride control harness, it and ECM harness connect together at passenger kick panel...

Your best bet for easiest install is find a '85 or '86 harness and repin the few connectors that are different/missing... Also possible to get the harness from a 4cyl '87-'88 Stang and add the necessary circuits to it...

Someone here was working on a 2.3 turbo swap and I think they were using Brazilian motor mounts because the Mavs had four cylinders available. The Pinto oil pan sounds familiar too. A search here ought to turn up someone's mostly-done project.

There is a guy on youtube and this forum I believe with a 2.3t from a 88 tbird that used the tbird harness. Said he cut everything except vital wiring....not sure what that means lol.

Good, the 2.3 A4LD automatic is weak & sucks majorly... Boost was limited to 8-9 psi in those just to hopefully keep it alive...

A A4LD is about five inches longer than the T-5 and requires a special D/S & crossmember... Bolts in farther back than the AOD/T5 crossmember...

The tc donor already has had the stock turbo replaced with a holset he351. It needs a front mount intercooler so until it gets intercooled the timing and boost have been dialed back to 8lbs anyways.
