5.0 ho swap wiring recommendations or tips

    So I picked up a 1990 mark vii LSC for 1300 bucks with a 117k mile 5.0 and aod.

    So looking for you guys that have done the swap that could maybe help me in the way of wiring.

    I plan to put the LSC gas tank in the maverick so I have a full size tank and correct pump.

    I know I need a custom aod cross member.

    What all is necessary from the harness?
    Should I get a different harness or ecu?

    I'm really bad with wiring so any and all help is appreciated.

    Oh and the LSC is bone stock if that helps. I plan on doing a bbk cai.....trickflow intake and stage 1 cam. Leaving everything else stock if possible.

    Get a '89 mass air Mustang wiring harness and ECM if you want the least amount of hassle... It's already wired for a mass air meter that you absolutely will need if you want it to idle with that cam... Otherwise the LSC harness is speed densety and more hassle than a 2.3T harness...

    If I go with the aftermarket harness or a mustang harness what all should I retain from the stock setup?

    My guess was all the ignition related pieces and the 02 sensors as well as all air intake pieces and wiring.

    You'll need air intake pieces for Mustang as they support the MAF meter that the LSC doesn't have..

    I called them up and it seems like a good deal. They told me I only needed to keep the LSC computer and ignition module and the common stuff to the ignition.

    That might be the way I go unless I find a killer deal on a mustang harness...ecu...and maf.

    I picked mine up from a Ford parts supplier back east. They had the best price. I will see if I can find a receipt and pass on the info.

    So the 1000 dollar question is how much do I gain from the efi setup vs a carb.
    I want to do the efi simply because its different and I was thinking it would yield a better running less worry free setup for a car I plan to drove daily

    What's your guys thoughts?

    Well I've got several carriers that sell the harnes .
    I am gonna get the harness and also look for a stang in the junkyard with a maf setup.
    What all do I need to get? Just the intake piece and the actual sensor? I plan on doing a cai so do I just need to get the actual maf sensor?

    Also several of the posts I've seen mention getting the pcm and a few other sensors...can't remember there names. What are the other sensors called and can someone possibly post up a few images of the parts I need to keep?

    My guess was pcm....ignition module....coil.....starter relay.....and after that I have no idea.

    I still have plans of adopting the whole mark vii tank and putting it in the trunk of the maverick.

    Excepting for the MAF meter, sensors, dist, etc are same(disconnect vac to MAP, it becomes a BARO sensor) ... As I said you'll need the Mustang PCM as the LSC unit isn't capable of operating the MAF meter... Some of the sensors such as the canister purge and solenoids to operate EGR(TAD & TAB) are somewhat optional, will run fine without them...

    The LSC tank is rather large, 22 gallons, same were used on '87 & '88 T-Birds(I've swapped LSC to Bird)

    As far as gain, the EFI setup produces more torque at lower speeds but doesn't make any more peak HP, it will make 5-7 more MPG and cold drivability makes one want to use that old a carb for door stop...

    BTW the Stage-1 cam won't be very happy with the stock AOD torque converter(got a T-Shirt for that one), for best low speed operation select a 2800-3200 RPM LOCKUP stall(1st & 2nd don't lock anyway)... Will give a major boost to low end grunt and still make 24-27 mpg on highway... You can get a non lockup but mileage will suffer and on a fairly stock engine doesn't make a huge difference in performance...

    What are the tad and tab?
    Someone mentioned a sensor that's located in the rear around the tank?

    I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on a converter. Same converter in an aod as a c4? What should I be looking for?

    the tab and tad solenoids are for the air injection. the only sensor near the tank that i know of is the fuel pump inertia switch. the aod does not use the same converter as a c4.

    Yeah that's the one lol. Do I need that sensor too......what do the tab and tad look like?

    the inertia switch is an accident safety item that turns off the fuel pump if the car gets hit. its not needed but if you want that safety feature then use it.
    the tab and tad solenoids are usually on the back side of the shock tower. they are black. they each have 2 vacuum lines going to them and 2 wires going to each of them. usually the egr solinoid is with them. its usually a little bit bigger than the tab and tad.

    Ok thanks. I'm gonna start tracking down all these bits and pieces tomorrow after work. Hopefully after I start pulling all the extra crap I'll be able to start figuring stuff out.
