Replacing the column shift in a 1970 to a floor shift is there a way to make the column look slick (get rid of the old shifter ) or do I need to replace the whole column? If so what year will fit a 1970

As mentioned in another thread, in my 70 I just took apart the column, removed the shift tubes and linkage, and then filled/sanded/painted the collar where the hole was.
I used a column from a 69 Mustang in my early 70 with the key under the dash. That got me a column with no shifter or ignition
Ford uses std color ID for almost all their vehicles, plugs/connectors may different(or pinned differently even if same), just verify location of each color matches... That said I believe '68 & '69 collapsible column connectors are same as the 1970s, at least through 1972...
I had a column shift on mine, just ground off the shifter bung and glassed in the hole and did it like bodywork. A little paint and you can't tell it was there. The top is still like it was. Just be sure to move the light or take out the bulb or it will show through the slot for the indicator piece.
