I'm new to the board, but had my eyes on my brother's Maverick 20 years ago. Time and finances allow me to start looking for a good project car...so if anyone know of one within 3 or 400 miles of Memphis, let me know, but...

I'm looking for a factory v-8 car, but I subscribe to the NO Replacement for Displacement theory.

Here's my question: What headers work with the 302? problems, benefits, hammer needed to install? What headers work with the 351w? Do any work with both? May start out fixing up a factory 302 car and build a 351w later.

    Thanks, Drew:bananaman

Will keep an eye out for one here in Arkansas, am about 130mi from you. Had a 71 for awhile but Maxx Levell drove all the way from Kentucky to pick it up. I know of three 2drs around here, two are pretty much junk in a salvage yard and the other is being kept behind a house under cover. Will try to see if it for sale one of these days. I have a 73 4dr that I would like to get off the property just for the room. Headers are available from cheap to high dollar for both engines. I would start with the 302 and then contemplate the windsor, little more work installing it and some issue's that are not found with the 302. Shock towers and header size etc. to name a couple. Used to see them all over but like yourself, more and more people are buying them up. Good luck in your quest.

Dave, send me a PM about the 4 door, may have a buyer for it.

I will also keep my eyes & ears open. I know an older guy that has a Comet Gt. I will chat with him to see what I come up with.

Comet GT :D Me likes :)
Love those cars, I like the front ends better than the mavericks.
Would be glad to see a new Comet owner

I remember my brother using it quite liberally on his 70 Maverick back in the day. Before we got into Buicks in the 90's we had picked up a shot 72 and gutted it and started to back half it. Notched the shock towers, but ran out of money/lost interest before anything came of it. i think he hauled it to the scrapyard later. It was a pretty poor attempt. Later, when we were both financially better off, we did a pretty damn good job at backhalfing a Regal in 4 weekends. A buddy still has that car and it'll run 10.50's on a 9:1 455 all day long and you don't even have to touch the steering wheel. It goes like a slot car!

Guys, I'd appreciate any help in finding a Mav...prefer a small bumper, but will just have to convert a big un if I have to.

I may have a lead or two for you. I live in Forrest City which is only about 45 miles over the river. I used to work in Memphis, as a Computer Engineer, and on my drives to/from work, I would see a yellow two door, that looks to be a '74-'75.... it's got big bumpers, but not the vertical rubber posts on the bumpers, like my '76. The car is just off Interstate 40 around the huge metropolis of Parkin, AR (Mile marker 256). The car is on the left if you're coming my way, from Memphis. It's parked between two house trailers.

I'm not sure if the car is for sale, as I haven't had the chance to stop by and talk to him about it, but I have on different occasions seen the hood up, and have seen the car parked in different positions, but never gone when I've driven by. So, I'm also not sure of the condition, but it might be worth it, to stop by and see.

I also know of a Comet here at a used car lot, that apparently runs fine, but again, I haven't stopped by to inspect it personally.

My father has also told me of at least two Mavericks at junk yards within 15 miles that he has seen making home visits (He's a parole officer).

If you want sometime, we can get in touch, you can come by and drive my '76 with a crammed in 351W, and we can go look at some of these I've seen.

    Just let me know,
    -Eric
