So, after 26 yr hibernation we (or I) since the Border Collie only watched.......drug out the Comet. I am having a blast with my old friend. Albeit the rear tires are not long in this world. The hunt for suitable tires is soon to begin. The local beat officer seems to be cruising by the place more often than usual. I wonder if he wants to run that Hemi Charger they so covet.....

    BUT...one annoying problem.:Blasting:

I noticed my drivers sun visor drooping. The little rubber tab above the rear view mirror self destructed. THEN the pot metal on the mounts went into multiple pieces.

Not a problem, ordered the retro part which arrived. Mustang replacement. 15 bucks a pop they arrived in good order.

Issue is, the metal part that slides into the sun-visor is just a tad smaller than what came out. That in itself does not pose a problem. What is a problem is the sun-visor after installed ---keep falling down. It won't stay flush with the headliner. I can see! Damn thing won't stay in place.

So, pondering how to solve this I am asking if anyone else has had this issue and how did you solve it? My kid said he would sink a screw thru the area where the long metal rod meets the cardboard, run a washer and a bolt. Tighten that area up.

Currently, I took a 1/4 fuel line, cut maybe an inch of it then inserted it into the center holder above the rear view mirror. Then pushed the chrome piece into it. I added an additional hose clamp (expandable one) around the fuel hose to make it tighter on the chrome piece. It is holding....for now.

Surely someone came up with another or alternative method of keeping the sun-visor from falling down in your face blocking your view....

My creative skills and solving problem skills sorely lack. That is why I failed law school,. was a terrible middle school teacher but a hell of a big rig driver who loves Cheeseburgers....:ignore:

Do the pegs in the center have the little factory rubber tips?

Yes, but the weight still sinks the visor down. I bought two new rubber tips.

I see what you are saying and I have an idea.
First, I never heard of this with the repops. Maybe they made them wrong or maybe you just have old loose stretched out visor holes.

Anyway - what I would try if they are really loose. There is a shrink tubing that is made to go over solder joints and bare wire. It is available at any hardware store. I would slip one of those over the metal and hit it with a hairdryer to shrink it tight to the rod. That should take up the extra space and keep the visor from swinging down on its own.

Great idea. I had in mind silicon. I like that shrink wrap idea. Something to cause a resistance. So the visor will stay in place. Let me hit the hardware store tomorrow

electrical tape might work too. Do 1 wrap and if its not tight enough do another.

Only trouble with electrical tape is when it sits in the hot sun it turns very soft. I think it would fail easy. The shrink tube will handle heat better.
