After much frustration, I replaced the master cylinder. I bled the MC before installing it. I drove it to work(33 miles). It was still very spongy so I parked it. I jacked the car today to check the drums. Brake fluid was dripping from the rear wheel. I have a cylinder on order. How can I tell if damage has been done to the drum? I don't want to put new shoes on bad drums. Also, this is the drum that the parking brake is mounted to. Do I have to readjust the parking brake when I replace thecylinder/drums? I really appreciate any advise.
the parking brake works off the shoes ..if the drums are not thin and can be turned or .......just spray them out good with brake cleaner ...the fluid would not hurt the drum
Just so you know you might want to check the rest of your brakes by pulling the drums off to maake sure that was not the only wheel cylinder leaking. It is a safe bet that if one is bad there might be more. later from the 4door guy
Hey Ya'll I pulle the drums off and the cylinder on the passenger side had completely fell apart. It was leaking fluid straight on the shoes. I replaced the cylinders and shoes. When I pulled the driver side drums, the cylinder was leaking slightly so I replaced it. The pad on the shoe looked like it was rotten. The pad would peel right off the shoe. Why did this happen? Anyway, I finished this afternoon and it runs great. It does not pull or scrub. Thanks again for all advise
good to hearlining peeling off could be age, exposed to brake fluid for long periods of time, cheap autozone pads/shoes.glad everything worked out for you. chuck.
Glad someone has been able to get there brake job done in a timely manner I think if I get mine blead out I will be all good.Glad to hear every thing worked out. Later from the 4door guy
