I am seriously looking at removing the Halo Vinyl Top Trim and Vinyl Top off my 73 Grabber. I know it is held on with clips but not sure what the clips clip to. Is there a little post that stick up from the roof that the clips clip on to? Of all the Mavericks I have ever dealt with, I never paid attention to how the Halo top trim is mounted. I am hoping that they are just little post that stick up and that you can grind them down/off then spot putty if need be ti fill the low spots. I hope that there are no holes that will needed welding up so I don't have to take my headliner out. But if I got to I will because I want it done right.
I hope someone can give me some feed back on this or even post a pic of what the roof looks like after the trim is removed.
Thanks in advance for the info.

I know there are little "posts" along most of the roof line that you simple grind off. There may be a hole at the very rear for a clip/nut you access from inside the trunk (I don't recall exactly)

Yes, there is a hole at the back, I can take a picture if that helps.

I was thinking the same thing, Allen. That is, until I saw the job Coop did on his Comet. After seeing that, I decided to retain the halo trim and paint the area the vinyl roof previously occupied with a contrasting color. If you want to remove the trim, there is one nut on the pillar that must be removed. You can then slide the entire trim section (forward or backward, I can't remember which) which will disengage it from the pins.

    I would personally keep it.

I realize I"m a little late to the party here (by a year) but my 74 grabber is going back together after 5 years of work, complete with the orange vinyl halo top. I just realized I'm missing or have damaged several of the small plastic retainers that fit on the roof studs that hold the trim in place. So far, I can't find them available anywhere! Can anyone give me some advice? This is going to the upholsterer shortly and I know he's going to want to mount the moldings.

I had checked Melvin's previously but went back again. No dice. I checked clips and fastners.com but no luck there either that I can tell. Would you be willing to part with some of your used ones Craig? I need about 10. I had some I took off a door side trim but they are wider.

Sent Melvins a sample and they have them. I'm good to go!
