    seems simple but...

My new (?) '76 Comet six came with rusty 14" Cragars' with over-optimistic utra wide 10" rims on rears. The rears 265's had hit the wheel wells and destroyed the tires.

To roll around while working, I got a set of "70's Mustang 14" wheels" and found the center hub was too small ...

So - Early 5x4.5 wheels won't fit later cars hubs ?. Is there a breakdown of actual sizes and the differing sizes - years posted ? . I see 4.5 x 14 and 15" wheels from Ford Rangers and Jeeps on CL but backspacing looks unusable?. Any recent car with 4.5 pattern wheels with 4" or less backspace that are usable ?

The 10" wide rear Cragars had 265 -14 TA's evidently aren't available any longer anyway and haven't found affordable 14" tires to fit the wide 10" rims period.

I massaged the center hole to fit the hubs but need wheels to fit decent tires 14 or 15".

    thanks

Hub size increased in 1970, earlier 14 & 15 probably will not fit...

Maverick hub size increased in 74, so factory wheels off an early car usually won't fit a later car.

Wheels from an explorer will probably work, the Jeep wheel have a smaller center hole so they don't work on the explorer so they probably won't work on the later Mavericks.

Found this out the hard way on my way to Roundup one year. Got a flat tire on the PA turnpike and my spare tire didn't fit onto the '76 disc brake hubs I had just installed.
