i have the engine running and finally able to drive the car but i'm not liking how the car rides, when i go over bumps in the road they throw the car around, the steering jerks and the rear slides left or right so is their a way to fix this or am i going to have to deal with it, the front suspension has had new bushing installed a little over 2 years ago same for the rear, i keep all my tires psi between 30-35 psi, i also do not have the v8 belly bar could this be the problem? im also missing my idler arm bushing as mentioned in a previous thread
worn out or cheap shocks can cause that sensation. also worn leaf spring bushings will give a soft unstable feel.
So many things can cause what you are going through, but I would recommend taking to a good alignment shop and have them check out all your steering/suspension components for possible play/wear. Installing a lower crossmember/belly bar would definitely help reduce flexing up front. But at least double check for play up front before you start changing this and that..........
this is a good suggestion to a point. if you take it to a "good alignment shop and have them check out all your steering/suspension components for possible play/wear." you will need everything replaced, that's what they do for a living. this just happened to someone else and still didn't fix his problem...(6-$800). I suggest you go in for just an alignment, don't tell them of any of the other problems. if nothing else you will find out how good/honest they are.
The infamous, "courtesy check". Take your car to most any shop (Firestone, Goodyear, Ford dealer, Pep Boys etc) and they will find wear EVERYWHERE. How many oil and filter changes have resulted in an extra $600-$800 of unnecessary work?
I just had the car alighned at led Schwab 3 months before I pulled the engine, I will take it back in and have it checked since it sat for 2 years
drive it over here we can fix it for you weve had all kiinds of trouble like that. alignment bushings ball joints soft leaf springs bad or missing leaf spring bushings. strut rod bar not tight enough steering box just plain worn out didnt you say youre missing an idler arm bushing? I had this problem with my white car and took it to my friends shop and the drop bracket fo rhte power steering was making the frame itself peel apart and flex while driving down the road. then the power assist shock could be weak or bad if you have power steering or even loose allowing the car to shift left to right suddenly when hitting a bump.
If this is missing in the center link I wouldn't drive the car very far. An air hammer makes quick work of removing it and a long bolt and a couple of heavy duty washers make it easy to install a new one. If the bushing is in the idler arm then it is just a matter of changing the arm.
If the idler arm is bad you're wasting time with a alignment... Time to have replaced that idler was when engine was out...
