    Hi,

For a little while now my idle has been a bit erratic no matter what adjustments I make to the carb (idle, gas / air ratio etc...), and now it's sometime chocking a bit on accelerations and at higher revs.

My guess is my carb is dying (1bll carb on a 250 ci 6cyl engine), would it worth getting a kit to rebuild it or should I just get a new one?

Or even could it be something else that is creating those symptoms?

    Yhanks

Unless the carb has a badly worn throttle shaft they are generally rebuildable, you'll need to look it over and make that determination...

Kits are cheap and easy to install in these carbs. They also come with all the specs for setting-up your carb, based on your application. It could even be a bad accelerator pump inside the carb that is causing you the grief (which comes with the kit).

    Good luck.

Are you sure it is the carburetor and not an ignition issue? Do the carburetor adjustments have no impact? What happens when you adjust the idle mixture screw? I'm not sure what you mean by choking on acceleration. Do you mean a stumble when hit the accelerator or does the engine loose power sometime later? Is the high RPM choke an engine miss?

Make sure that there are no vacuum leaks and that the carb bolts are tight. sometimes those will work lose over time.

Hi guys, sorry it took me a while to answer and thank you for the help, I've been extra busy with work.

And in the end it was actually a couple of stupid maintenance oversights, like old spark plugs, dirty air cleaner and fuel filter. Now it's roaring fine!

Sorry for jumping the gun and not simply doing a basic check! I've assumed the worst too fast hahahah
