I recently bought a 73 mav 6cyl, I noticed when I bought it the rad cap hit the hood, so today I lowered the rad to the right mounting holes. Went to start it and come to find out fan was hitting the upper hose, so I raised it back up and found a temp hose at the shop now if I shut the hood all the way it hits so I drove home with the hood unlatched:shocked:

Is my engine to high, fan too big, wrong upper hose?

pics are of the temp upper hose(looks just like the old one) with the radiator higher than it should be

The fan appears to be too large...

I had the same problem with my radiator cap. My problem was the hood latch had come loose and the pushed the latch up and let the hood sit on the cap.

I don't know what fan came on 6 cylinder Mavs, but my factory fan is a bit of flex fan. The blades can flatten a bit a speed. That stamped steel blade screams "truck" to me, but that just a guess.

6 cyl fans look like that one.

Need more pix of the radiator. I would guess it is the wrong one...because the neck on the cap look s really tall...but hard to tell in that pix.

My 73 w/ 250 had a flex fan when I got, and had a motorcraft part number. The radiator looks incorrect to me too though.

Yep std cooling fans look like that one, A/C & HD were generally flex or had 5 maybe 6 blades...

If fan is more than approx 17½" its likely the incorrect one...

the radiator looks to be the wrong one with it slanting down at the neck and the fan looks like it has a HUGE blade on it. I dont remember the fan in my boys old comet with a 250 being that big/thick looking

The inlet looks to be bent down - that would make the fan hit the hose. There isn't much room there to begin with.

Well I went to the parts store and bought a 15" flex fan for now, the stock fan measured 17". Did you know flex fans are almost $60:yikes: The guy I got the car from said it was redone recently

It looks like your radiator is a different syle than mine that might be the issue, thanks for the pic
