    Hi Nick:
Just ordered a set of Sequential Taillights for the '70 Maverick we're building for the POWER TOUR and I've shipped a set of COMET housings with lenses to their plant for their work on the Sequential COMET taillight assemblies soon to be offered . The sequential part of the COMET taillights will be in the OUTER pods only retaining the stock back up lights now in place. Neat people to deal with .

Yep !! I ordered two sets and two flashers . One for my Daughters '72 Maverick and one for my '70 Maverick . I'm sure she would rather have a new pair of shoes .. but I think it's important to be SEEN by the idiots that crowd our roads and highways . I'm looking forward to installing them on my COMET ! I spoke to Jim at PERFORMANCE and we're going to be passing out brochures for them during the tour and at the seven stops we make on the upcoming Hot Rod POWER TOUR . We also are going to be a " rolling " advertisement with OUR sequential lights working all during the entire tour . PERFORMANCE also makes lights for Novas , 65 Chevys , etc. etc. I wish them success with their business.. I think it's great that these folks are doing something for OUR type cars.
I'll keep everyone posted on the COMET taillights when I get any information.

Hey Chip, that is cool Jim is going to do the Comet tail lights too. I like how he incorporated the reflector part of the Maverick lens as part of the lights. My set is due to arrive tomorrow so I will let everyone know how they look and work in person.

I am interested in a Comet set! I have a question on the low current flasher upgrade. How does that flasher work as far as the frt turn signals are concerned? Will they still work properly w/ the LC flasher?

    Hi Nick:
Looking forward to your post on the Maverick sequential lights..Did you order their "flasher " too ? Jim was telling me that he used a " white " led at the back up area of the NOVA lens and it flashed RED . He mentioned that they already have a set of lights for a NOVA that are similar to the COMET geometry and maybe he could somehow utilize that layout. That would mean we could see the COMET light boards a lot sooner.. Incidentally .. thanks for getting the ball rolling on these lights .. I've been experimenting on the COMET taillights for a while now and I " have " a setup that would work with three , and with six separate pieces. I'd rather wait to see what PERFORMANCE does with these . Its a lot of aggravation and work to make "my" setup work .

    Hi MoJo:
Good question .. I have LEDs in both my cars in the front and the rear and the FRONT signals operate as usual
only brighter .. I don't think the REAR LED's would effect the Front Light Units .. even with the Sequential setups
.. We'll find out when Nick sets HIS car up soon .

I assume U only had to replace the front bulbs w/ LED's? I wud think if U went to the LED setup, U wud have to go all LED to have proper operation of ur turn sig's.

You do not need all LEDs with a solid state flasher. Instead of relying on current to heat up and bend a piece of steel ON and OFF (clicking), the solid state flasher uses a simple, solid state timing circuit to flash the lights ON and OFF. The timing circuit is controlled independent of the loads, unlike a standard mechanical flasher which requires incandescent loads to operate. LEDs do not provide enough of a load for mechanical flashers to operate correctly, which is why you have to replace the flasher or add external loads to the lighting circuits when converting to LEDs.

If you want to retain your mechanical flasher with LEDs, you can add 50W 6Ohm resistors in parallel on each bulb circuit. This is what you need to do on newer cars that have the flashing circuit controlled by the Body Control Module without an external flasher.

    Hey guys:
I already have LC flashers in both cars. I don't use resistors because they would just draw more power unnecessarily . Doing this avoids using Larger Wires to carry the current. ALL lights with the exception of TRI-BAR Headlights are LEDs .. including the flashers on my mirrors .

    Exactly!

I was planning on replacing my bulbs on my 2005 Chevy with LEDs but my flashers are BCM controlled. I would have to add resistors to trick the BCM out of "fast flash". Other than being brighter, kind of defeats the purpose of using LEDs. :slap:

I can't wait to see the Comet version. :thumbs2:
