I'm in the process of going from drum/drum to manual disc/drum brakes. Is it nessecary to swap out the master cylinder and combination valve? Thanks!

I would at least swap out the master cylinder. You will want the larger reservoir that the disc master cylinder provides.

So did I. 'Just gotta make sure your rear wheels don't lock up too quickly. Larger rear tires help to reduce this as well.

Front disc was standard on ALL 76 and 77 Maverick and Comets, regardless of other options. Just order a (most likely Manual) master cylinder for a 76 or 77. I bought my stuff from Rock Auto. They have lots of them...

    '74 and '75 was optional for front discs. I have a '74 disc/drum M/C on my '73.

The only issue I had was that fluid displaced with brake pad wear would empty the reservoir before the front pads needed replacement. Just requires periodically checking the fluid and emptying out the reservoir or opening the caliper bleeders when you push the caliper pistons back in for a brake job. Shouldn't pose a problem
75 was standard disc with optional power assist. 74 was optional disc or drum

Yeah, they didn't become "standard" until '76.

My front disc were dragging so bad with the drum brake master cylinder that I had to crack the bleeder to be able to spin the wheel on the spindle. Swapped to disc master and it solved the problem

This is what I am running also. My lines were in excellent shape, so I was able to grind the flares off the ends with a bench grinder, swap fittings and then re-flare. Other than the fittings, it's a bolt-in swap.
