I'm back everyone! I sold my comet about 3 years ago and just recently bought it back. It had changed hands 3 times and the last guy blew up 3 motors in it it currently has a knock and the transmission only goes in reverse. It has a 95 roller 351w with a c-4. My question is, is the body to rusted to be saved.

Nowhere near as bad as mine was but I repaired everything with a mig welder and good used panel pieces :)

that's gonna be a lot of work. floors, torque boxes, both possibly due to leaking cowls. rear quarters, even frame damage.
in the end, it all depends on your welding skills...

I definitely think it's worth it, that's a sweet looking car!
Like rthomas771 said, I've seen a lot worse.
I would suggest learning to weld, if you don't already know how.
    It's not that hard.
And just tackle one section at a time.
It looks like the exterior of the car just needs some touch ups.
But OLD GOOSE has a good point also, if you don't REALLY want it done,
it may just end up a permanent project, sitting in a corner of your garage, collecting
    dust.

Thanks everyone! I can weld but I have never welded in patch panels. I guess it's just take it as it comes. I have no idea where to start or how to repair the ture boxes

Well.....you asked.....so here is how I look at it:

    1. Rusted torque box
    2. Lots of other rust that one can see.
    3. That means there is lots of rust one can't see.
    4. You state yourself you have little to no experience fixing this type of rust

There are so many solid, rust free cars out there.....why fix rust?

This must be the old girlfriend he loved.
LukeDuke: Good luck if you decide to take this on. Looks like a crapload of work, but do-able. Lots of help/tips available here.

If you can find a rust free car for the same price, then yeah, why bother with rust? But where I'm located (Michigan)a rust free car will cost at least a couple grand more than a fixer upper.

You will save more than a couple grand by buying a rust free car than trying to fix rust.

dont trouble your self with the decision just ship it over here Ill take car of it for ya

really though if you REALLY love the car fix it IF NOT youve got some good parts. Ive seen people fix cars WAY worse than yours it just depends on the amount of work you want to do.

the BEST example of this statement I can give you is topolinos car. that car looked great before he started it or so it appeared. turns out one or even TWO of everything was rusty and or rotten
when he got done it was one of the most impressive cars Ive ever seen (the mona lisa of cars is how I like to think of it) with things I still wish to do to my cars and theyre not rusty :eek3:

Thanks for all the replies. I really do love the car. That being said I am a broke mechanic with 2 kids one on the way and a wife to feed. If anyone in the okc area wants to donate a rust free shell I'm willing to take it off your hands free of charge haha. I don't mind using this one for parts if I can find a very cheap rust free maverick or comet to build.
