Have had electrical problems the hole last winter, got it repeard. Was bad grounding. Was out for a ride today just to find out that when turning to left it wont blink, the blinkinglights are on the hole time. When turning to right it works normaly. Can it be the relee? But why only when turning to left, are there two reles, one for both sides. If it is the rele, where can i find it? Know that i have read about it on this link before, but canot find it. Why must the electrical be so difficult in my car, or has someon else had same kind of problems. Last winter my car made tricks that even magicians couldnt do. Has someon thinking about to rewire the hole electricalsystem directly from the battery and only take the power to the turningrelee thru the steeringwheel. Maybe there would be new kind of problems ahead if doing that, but most likely not more than i have had lately. Hope you guys have a better day than me, and it is still morning yet here in Finland.
I switched the bulbs in the rearend, nothing changed. I even tried to check the ground but only in the rearlamp. Can not understand how it coud be the ground when the lamps get on. Without ground the lamps shouldnt work at all, or are am wrong?
What you are calling relays are flashers, which are a thermal switch... Load of bulb causes the bimetal plate inside to warp thus breaking circuit, when it cools connection is restored and the process repeats.... So if both front and back are fully illuminated(not just dimly), you possibly have a miswired socket or maybe incorrect bulb(not drawing enough current to heat flasher element)... If side that works is slow you may just have a lazy flasher... Of course since it's been serviced prior the wiring could be altered, many mechanics are mystified by a few wires... A ground is nothing more than making sure the outer shell of bulb base makes a electrical connection with chassis... Really not any different than making sure the ends of a wire are connected, no current flows if one is broken, unplugged or corroded... There are two flashers, one is for right/left, while the second operates four ways(all four corners) they look same but are different generally won't operate if swapped... Flashers should be located in wiring, under dash near your left knee...
Ok, found one, nothing was changed when i disconnected it. So it was the wrong one. Part nr d2ab-13350-aa. But couldnt find the other on, it must be wellhided under the dash somewhere. Has someon changed it without taking off the lower dash or is it a must.
Sounds like you found the four way flasher that's in a lead that extends from fuse panel, D2 number means it's probably original.. The other will likely be clipped behind dash, probably just below the wiper switch, nearer the steering column... Turn ignition switch on(not necessary to start engine) and listen for the flasher operation... Removing dash on these cars is a last resort of epic proportion, screws that hold top are all but impossible to access without removing windshield.. Removing lower tray is easy enough and may be helpful...
I think i found the problems, the bottom of the rearlampsocket was badly corroded. Was locking at melvins for new sockets, gona change all off them in the rearend. I found taillampsocket and back up socket. But when i was locking for bulbs they gave the same bulb for them both, was it part nr 1157. At least in my car the reverselamp is only with one wire. Saw that the bulb for 74-77 was a bulb for one wire. Has someon change the socket in my car or is it wrong in the catalog.
If their socket numbers are same for both tail and backup then you would likely use a 1157 as the 1156 & 1157 will not fit in each others socket... In that case you'd wire the bright filament(brake/signal)to use as backup and leave the other wire disconnected... I use '88 T-Bird sockets in my Comet that take 1156 but Mercury used a separate ground wire because of the plastic housings(orig bulb 1076), no idea if they'll work in a Maverick...
