I was wondering if how white the original interior was. I think mine has faded over time. I want to touch up some spots but if the color is too faded i'll have to do the whole interior.
Yep.. we want pic's. I've been thinking on converting much of my all red interior over to white to counteract and balance out all the red stripes and red in the engine bay of my Comet. Always liked many of the other Fords deluxe white interiors and curious to see what yours looks like.
Given the cars age and exposure over the years (Colors fade with time, even white)...You will most likely have to do the whole interior if you want it to match. Unless what you need to touch up is small/inconspicuous...
Take em out scrub em down really well...(Mr. Clean magic eraser worked very well for me) Then see what you have...I had to repaint my rear int' panels on the Sprint...Used Duplicolor wimbeldon white for plastics on em, worked well and looks good. Of course I painted the int steel of the doors as well at the same time, so it all looks uniform. Originally tried rustoleum white...It was way off...The wimbeldom white was an excellent match...I'll get some pics for you if you want tomorrow...Didn't take any of the finished product when I did it 7 yrs ago...I should. I took pics of em when they were ugly though. Go figure...LOL...
Thanks much for taking the time to post those pic's, Evan. I like it and think I may try to do something similar with red center sections on each seat to match my red stripes. I can feel my retina's starting to burn just looking at my interior from the outside and can only imagine what it will be like to actually sit in it and drive around on a sunny day. lol And a nice cheap tool that works well to clean interiors is one of those battery operated rotating scrubber brushes they sell for cleaning bathroom tile. You can also buy scrubber heads for use in drills too. Just be cautious about getting too aggressive on the bristle stiffness, is all. Be sure to use something safe for plastics/vinyl as they are easily damaged and become even more fragile with age. I would also use some form of vinyl protectant after all the cleaning is done and the more expensive stuff(Mothers, Mcguiars, etc) will also have UV protection as well.
Cool, thanks for the advice guys! I really like the black dash and carpet with the white interior in my car car and am going to try and restore it to the best of my abilities.
Hopefully, being further north saved your rear panels. They get baked down here. The upper portions actually will get what looks like sunburn, and if that happens, any scrubbing starts removing texture ... be gentle with those. If they look the least bit delicate, I would opt for spray painting them with the closest match you can get. If it isn't a plastic paint or vinyl dye, you might try a light spray of Bulldog adhesion promoter (similar to a primer).
Yeah I live in the desert part of Washington. And before I owned it it was in a stored in another hot and sunny place. I'll try and find the closest match I can and try those paints.
"desert part of Washington" ...!?! I thought the whole state was rain forest and fog .... lol. Probably explains why I keep seeing so many primo old cars from that state. Best of luck with it.
