Hello, I have a 1970 ford maverick that I am doing for my sixteeth birthday. I need help on where I can find a complete front apron or all the apron panels (car had been in accident),complete cowl (someone had cob jobbed the whole cowl and it is completely rotten) , floor pans (someone had patched them with fiber glass), and a rear trunk pan (rotten from deck lid seal leaking) Thanks Bryant
Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio! Where are you from, do you live in the rust belt? What does the rest of the car look like?
I'm from central New York. The rest of the car is in fairly good shape, just the left door skin has a big dent and some rust, and the right rear corner is full of bone. Once I figure out how to get my pictures on here I will defiantly post them
Not probably what you want to hear.....but I live in "Realville": You need another car. The money you spend trying to fix THAT car will be double to triple what it would take to get a more solid car to begin with. My case in point: Fix THIS not THAT: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=86787&highlight=fix
We'll find me a 1970 ford maverick in the Syracuse cortland Ithaca area or Charlotte nc for cheap then I will do that. The main reason I'm doing this car and haven't looked for others is that this car was my dads and was passed through most of my brothers....
I understand where you are coming from. Sentiment can be powerful and expensive. What Craig is pointing out is something that most of us old farts had to learn the hard way. Rust is one of the most expensive issues to deal with in a restoration. Choosing to restore a Maverick over a more popular Mustang just makes things worse. If you are a real good welder, have the proper equipment and a lot of donor parts, it might make economic sense. If you have to pay someone to do the rust repairs, it will get VERY expensive, very fast. If you, at some point want to sell it, an astute buyer will look for splices, patches etc, and adjust their offer (down) accordingly. There are still survivors out there for less than $5,000 with minimal to no rust. I bought mine in Illinois, a state not known for rust free cars, yet I found it on Craigs list and it was indeed rust free. You just have to be patient and scour the internet on a daily basis. In would rather sink my $$$ into a nice powertrain, wheels, paint etc. than spend thousands in repairing rust. Just my opinion.
Great name. hope you get this maverick together. these cars are going up in demand and that brings up the value. sounds like you will save this one.
if you have the skills dive in if you dont have the skills family car or not let it go and find a better one unless you have plenty of money you dont mind spending. the cowl can be bought rust free and installed IF youre willing to put in the time. it looks like you have the tools and the space to get anything paint and body related done. and youre doing a better job than just about any other 16 year old would already by being able to identify problem areas and figure out what it takes to repair it instead of just driving it as is or painted over all of the rust and bondo if you want to buy parts post a wanted ad in the classified section here. plenty of people here can help you out with parts including myself good luck youre going to need it
