I am going to look at this today : http://daytona.craigslist.org/cto/5210395234.html

    It has a running 250 with 116 K miles, p/steering, p/disc brakes, A/C, 5lug wheels, 8 inch rear.

mine has no motor, manual steering, manual 4 lug drum brakes, and no A/C.

Are there any of these parts that will NOT fit my 70?

Any ideas what gears were stock in a 75? my 70 has a 8" rear with 2.7X gears, but I don't think it is the original rear end. Mine also had a 78 Bronco 250 motor when I got it, so it may have a bronco rear end too. 100_1564.JPG

If I buy this car, I will sell the carcass at the scrap yard because it is a 4 door with rust. (floors)
I will remove just about everything from the chassis except the body panels to sell if anyone needs parts, let me know.

A/C cars generally got 3.00 gears... Late 1970 got the 8" rear yours is probably orig, Bronco would be too long...

Most of those parts you mentioned should swap over.

Congrats... Should have just about everything you need to make yours driveable...

Everything in the steering/suspension should swap, all years use same control arms(well the '69.5 uses a different ball joint, but the later control arm replaces the earlier one) ... The center link varies by year but in my opinion the '75-'77 is best as the idler arm is same as Granada(read, easy to find and bushings are in arm not linkage)... I have the '77 steering components on my '72...

You may find the line to rear brakes has a different size nut on line, if that's the case will require a adapter or reflair line with correct fitting...

Its gonna be a long process...I'll take and post lots of pics on the way.
    Expect many questions.
It may have a 200, not sure through all the mess and emissions crap.....but it did start right up with a splash of gas and screwdriver jumping the bad starter solenoid. no smoke, no knocking, no rattles, smooth idle and a small exhaust leak somewhere near the motor.

I have no idea where my current 4 lug 8" rear end came from, it has junkyard paint pen marks. I jacked up the rear axle and locked the passenger wheel in place with a brick and turned the drive shaft and counted the turns of the shaft compared to the turns of the wheel. it was about 2.7 something turns of the shaft for 1 turn of the wheels, so I'm guessing it's a 2.73, 2.75, or 2.79, I don't know what rear ends were available for an 8". I have not seen anything shorter than a 3.00:1
Mine was clearly more than 2.5 and less than 3.00 turns.
I will swap to the unknown 8" and front spindles from the donor car just to get the 5 lug setup and power disc brakes.
For now I will leave the gears as-is behind the SIX and C4 until I get my AOD, then
I will install 3.80 gears in the 8" while it has a SIX in it and switch to 3.50 gears when I get my 302 built and installed.

Is a Trac-Lock or Detroit locker a bad idea in a long distance touring car? driving on every kind of road?and weather..

Oh, and btw.. i paid less than $500 and the guy selling it wants to buy 1 of my C4's for $100 and knows a gut that will pay $150 for any 8" rear from Mav/Comet or Mustang II.
I might actually come out with a net investment of $0 after I get paid for the scrap.

I'm not familiar with the term "quarter patch panel" are you referring to the rear quarter panels? they would be part of the unibody and need to be cut out? or is there something else?
I was a dodge technician and haven't ever worked in a body shop. Sorry, the word "patch" is throwing me off.

Detroit locker, not a bad idea in a long distance touring car?

Like I said.. lots of questions...I haven't even picked it up yet.
I don't even know where I'm gonna put it yet. My Mav in garage, drive way already full and son parking his truck on street. Our wrecked 65Falcon for sale is already at Grandpa's house...and I live by a country club and can't have junk with no license plates in front of the house.

Back in the 60s 3.25 & 3.50 were fairly common for factory 8"(generally 4-speed application)... Mav/Comet got 2.79 without A/C and 3.00 with... Probably some obscure exception but AFAIK those two were the only 8" ratios...

If it has a 200 will be rare(or most were already junked)... Paul's VIN list shows only three '75 Mav/Comets with 200, that's out of something like 88 cars... By far the 250 is most common...

    I bet this one has a 3.00:1
I probably just looked at the wrong spot for the water pump bolts. It's a mess under the hood cause of a past radiator leak sprayed rusty mud all over the engine compartment. I didn't take any pics today.

if you could just cut a quarter panel patch out of the bottom of the rear quarter panels. from the wheel well back 1 foot and up to the body line. Can be done with a sawsall, or cutting tool.

    ok, I get your meaning.
I don't know the condition of the body panels yet and don't know what all I will need either.
Are you in Florida? I don't want to ship anything.
