My car will be going out for paint here shortly and I will be going with a blacked out hood (think 69 Mach 1). Has anybody done anything similar? Please post a photo of silicate setups as I'm not sure if that's what I really want. Thx
Very valid question as the blacked out treatment will detract from the scoops aggressiveness if it too is black and blends in with the hood color too much. Unless you want to make it stealthier for some reason. If I were to attempt this paint scheme on these cars I'd certainly consider bordering the black out treatment with a larg'ish 1/2" black stripe offset the same distance and located a ways off the edge of the hood like the Mustangs had. Although I loved my '69 Mach, the Mustangs stripe was too small in my opinion and only really visible at closer range. That little detail of upping the delineation stripes size really makes them pop from a distance.
I found what I needed, I kinda like the blacked out trunk too. But the separation is needed from the blue. It still might be too much blue, I wouldn't black out the whole trunk but leave maybe an inch from the edge of the trunk. This is on a comet GT with the smaller scoop.
Maverick not a Comet . I painted this hood hot rod black semi gloss, did not want to cut a hole for air cleaner in original paint hood.
I did my hood in black along with the cowl panel. Similar to you, I have been toying with how much black to put on it when it finally gets paint. This has ranged from pretty close to what the GTs had to the Mach 1 idea, to possibly including the fender tops. If doing the fender tops, how to terminate it becomes an issue. I will be switching to a GT scoop. This one is from a mid-80s Mustang and has been opened up to be functional. I have a smooth front bumper now, too .... no more guards.
